Acantha and her kind are monsters of unknown origins, destined to become the dangerous enemies of the planet (and its guardians) in due time. But, rather than follow an expected 'hero', the story focuses on the ghosts/monsters who've taken it upon themselves to solve the mystery behind their own past before it's too late.
